Poker Pro – Poker Game Magazine
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e., everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.
For a top level poker player who must keep abreast of the latest and greatest in the world of the game, Poker Pro Magazine may just be the ultimate resource. It’s an excellent assemblage of news and tips, and also has an online system for playing that it states is the fastest growing of its kind. It also has an E-newsletter, blogs, and various articles on different facets of the game.
The concept for the magazine came from Will Jordan and ‘Johnny Quads’ Wenzel. Jordan is a pretty decent player and won some money at the 2008 World Series of Poker and Wenzel, who worked as writer and holds a journalism degree, was the 2006 Oklahoma State Pot-Limit Hold’Em Champion. He has also published three books about poker and even worked as a dealer with the thought it would boost his game.
The duo’s next step was to hire Jack McAdoo, who just happens to guide one of the top poker podcasts Poker Pod Radio, with the task of establishing the fledgling publication online. The ultimate goal, however, was to create a publication that depicted reverence for the game and all things associated with it. At the time many poker magazines were not highly regarded for the quality or quantity of content. Jordan and Wenzel sought to rectify that and their dream has come true.
Poker Pro is a slick, glossy, magazine chock full of information and is also dedicated to the players. Each edition features a question and answer session with one of the world’s top players. Its first edition presented one of the best players in the history of the game on its cover. What makes this magazine different from the rest, is Wenzel is a true journalist and poker lover, while many other publications of the same nature just have poker players or admirers working for them minus reporting or writing experience.
Another unique aspect of Poker Pro is their playing forum. There is a small fee to join and players don’t actually play for cash, but for a multitude of prizes, rewards or points. These include a way to arrive at the World Series of Poker and $5,000 freerolls each month. The concept was developed after a 2011 decision by the United States Department of Justice to restrict poker player and the forum is the first ever to institute 3-D tournaments.
The website, forum, and magazine have a little bit to offer all poker fans and players. It is certainly worth a glimpse and who knows, you might become hooked.
